Landscape is a representation in which both changes in the way we see things and modifications of the Earth’s surface are reflected. Photographic reportages produced over the last few decadeshave accustomed us to looking with a critical eye at many dramatic and spectacular situations dueto the effects of earthquakes, deforestation, etc. A new dramaturgy has entered scenes of thelandscape, influencing the way we perceive the world. Taking account of the fact that architectsact in situ, i.e. on the terrain—unlike painters, writers, photographers, and the like, who operatefrom a visual perspective—we will examine multiple experiments with the adoption of anarchitecture suited to restoring an environment to health, if necessary, even by means of areasof urban afforestation.

The case studies have given us the measure of the different "fabrics" that make up the city, and their possible transformations. The intent is to extend the aesthetic that has emerged to the scale of the landscape. Vast expanses of geographical continuity, running along the river, are taking the place of major works of infrastructure, and are inserted into the districts following old routes for the supply of water.

Actuellement, la Ludwigstraße est un lieu peu propice à la flânerie, servant essentiellement d'axe de transit. La transformation envisagée vise à faire de la Ludwigstraße un espace que les citoyens pourront s'approprier. Il s'agit de créer une zone de détente et de rencontre au cœur de cet ensemble de bâtiments historiques prestigieux, offrant une promenade attrayante et de grande qualité tant pour les habitants que pour les visiteurs venus du monde entier. L'objectif est d'élaborer un concept global qui rende justice à la qualité et à l'importance de cet ensemble classé monument historique, tout en répondant aux impératifs d'adaptation au changement climatique.

All cities increasingly have to deal with the effects of climate change, and especially with extreme weather events. As the urban grounds’ absorptive capacity is limited, stormwater emerges as a challenging agent that reveals the intrinsic fragilities of built fabrics. Stormwater offers a systematic presentation of design strategies and a comparative analysis of stormwater-embracing open spaces. Investigating the four categories of urban parks, neighborhood parks, squares, and streets, the authors present 26 European best-practice case studies with photos, project descriptions, and drawings. These sites were conceived as amphibious landscapes that dynamically adjust to both dry and wet conditions. The atlas demonstrates how to effectively respond to stormwater and engage it as a design medium, investigating the varied possibilities it offers in the articulation of adaptive urban landscapes.
