TEXT

The positioning of the new neighborhood alongside the Danube gives significant consideration to its exterior spaces, in particular to the long expanse bordering the river. While the project, in a very natural manner, extends a number of the quays from the city center, its status is more contemporary, existing both as a public space of a highly urban nature as well as a park. This typology is not exactly foreign to the historical center where many majestic trees grow, but it is above all the geographical dimension of the site that determines this naturalistic choice. A strong and vigorous vegetation brings into relief the river's presence in the valley.

The ground area is organized into three parallel strips. Proceeding from the buildings towards the river, one successively comes across paved terraces, a spacious lawn sloping gently towards the water, and an environmental cordon of riverfront vegetation. A layer of trees is superimposed over the whole, making up a vegetal mass in correspondence with the scale of the river.

Paradoxically, the majority of trees are planted alongside the buildings. In contrast, the large lawn is scarcely planted, with just a few isolated groves. As a consequence, the lawn remains very sunny and visually open to the larger landscape surrounding. This arrangement takes into account flooding risks: the more exposed areas are left free of obstacles.

Contrasting with this naturalistic layout, a series of piers designed by the architect Inessa Hansch, horizontally extend above the trees, extending the level of terraces all the way to the river. These function as panoramic promenades from where both the river landscape and urban park can be taken in and enjoyed.
