In Lusail, the quays of the Marina District continue to the southwest becoming long tree-lined promenades, known as East and South Waterfront. They enjoy remarkable views of the Persian Gulf. Their development as public spaces consists mainly in ensuring their composition widens, while providing a series of shaded spots.
The East Waterfront area has an essential role in linking the marina with the park located farther to the south. The organization of this pedestrian and linear surface utilizes the guiding principles we established on a larger scale for the plantings for Lusail as a whole. The smooth and unobstructed surfaces are traversable in a number of pleasant and easy ways. Groves of vegetation and alignments of palm trees are planted less densely, which alternate with brise-soleils, lightweight and intricate structures that succeed in filtering the light and rendering the heat more bearable along the promenade. The arrangement is completed by an uninterrupted hydraulic system which contributes in lowering the temperature and providing some coolness.
