TEXT

In the heart of the new city of Lusail, the Marina District encompasses in its entirety the maritime facade. This neighborhood in full development assembles together large commercial, hotel, and residential complexes. It presents itself as an open and inviting door to the world, a privileged everyday destination for residents as well as for thousands of yachtsmen.

Public spaces along the waterfront will line and follow upon large boulevards and numerous squares. With regard to the constraints stemming from the frequentation of the site and especially from its climatic conditions, the waterfront and inland area are provided with a tree-filled configuration made up of palm trees. The arrangement alternates between large parks, coastal promenades, and smaller gardens. The gardens provide occasional but saving oases within the built-up environment. The plant varieties can withstand high temperatures, while providing protection from the sun and hot winds, and imparting the coolness necessary for outdoor activities. The ground, through its uniform treatment of granite paving stones, serves in unifying on a neighborhood level all the various public spaces, rendering it identifiable as an urban unity.
