TEXT

Wadi Park has a fundamental role in both the urban expansion and the specific composition of a landscape identity for the new city of Lusail, located fifteen kilometers north of Doha.

The park traverses the city from east to west, bringing together the various city neighborhoods around its fifty-six hectare ecological corridor, rich with local plant species. Its  linking function also works in reconnecting the urban agglomeration to its context, stretching from the arid mountainous slops to the east to the mangroves and marshy shores to the west. The park, which serves as a breathing space within the city, becomes both a place where different natural environments meet, part of a complex hydraulic infrastructure managing various water sources, as well as the setting for numerous small public facilities.

The figure of the Wadi, a dry hollowed out valley created during periods of violent torrential rain, gives its name to the park. Inspired by this characteristic geographical phenomena of desert regions, a central “wadi” stretching lengthwise structures the site. Four lateral road infrastructure networks divide the site into five areas each with very distinct landscape features, as well as each being equipped with diverse sporting and recreational facilities.
