On the occasion of the transformation of the Strasbourg TGV Est train station, the four hectares of the old mineral square in front were redeveloped into a major public space. Conceived of as superimposing a relaxing garden with a mineral square, this unique site succeeds in integrating together various urban functions.
The site today presents a privileged spot in the city. Its large pedestrian “clearing” creates in its center places in which to stroll, sit, wait, watch the life of the station pass by. Street traffic is pushed far back, behind the peripheral masses of trees. The desire to render this prestigious location as fluid and accommodating as possible is manifested as well through a new organization of the parking lot, where a redistribution of its access points and dropping off lanes, and a simple and straightforward arrangement of the connecting space with the train station, ensure the legibility of the whole
