The property of the Hotel Vista Palace, situated below the hotel positioned into the side of the hill, spreads out over more than three hectares. Old drystone retaining walls form a succession of terraces. The rest of the estate remains an inaccessible natural space. The new owners wished to develop and highlight the qualities of these exterior spaces.
For the inaccessible natural space, made up of a landscape typical for the region, with its cliffs, wooded areas, and garrigue shrub land, the project envisaged the setting up of forest-style protection and management.
The historical terraced garden walls are preserved and fortified with the aim of creating an ample walking path. In a game of alternation, accessible mineral terraces and garden terraces make the most of the small amount of width available. There are a number of standout spots here and there along the path, such as lookout points and small architectural works integrated into the landscape.
The exoticism of the mediterranean vegetation is here intensified. The botanical interest of the garden lies in the fact that it is conceived not so much as a collection of plants, but rather as a collection of environments from mediterranean-style climates the world over: New Zealand, Australia, China, South Africa, California, South America.
