South of Bercy Park, between the Seine and the complex grid of railway and traffic routes and networks, the city of Paris becomes denser and seeks to reinvent itself. The ambition of the Bercy Charenton project is precisely this reinvention, the creation of a new neighborhood without, however, attempting to simply erase the bundle of constraining infrastructure elements. The project takes advantage of the large urban scale and the numerous infill sites such a scale produces, in order to reinvent our way of approaching the city.
In this way, the railroad lines and infrastructure interchange become essential landscape and urban elements. The empty spaces that are hollowed out by such elements are brought into highlight, determining in their turn the orientation of perspectives and horizons. The surrounding neighborhoods open onto these entities which celebrate movement.
Particular attention is given to pedestrian crossings, with a number of them to bridge the different facilities and the various programs planned.
These pathways and the treatment of a plant covering provide the opportunity of establishing a continuity between two major metropolitan landscape spaces, Bercy Park and the Bois de Vincennes.
