The site is part of a large park connected to a historical villa situated on the banks of Lugano Lake. It is currently characterized in large part by luxuriant and exceptional vegetation. The new residential project, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, comes with the development of its exterior spaces. The objective lies in both preserving the existing elements and in creating new gardens and terraces indicative of the site's character.
The project as a whole was conceived according to the principal of continuing and building upon the already existing elements of the park. A comprehensive and thorough study of the vegetation allowed us to develop and expand upon the green spaces of the new villas, while preserving the already present plant species. Particular attention was given to border design, so as not to break up and divide the exterior spaces. Each villa maintains its own exterior private area, while nonetheless the feeling of being within a vast and unified park remains. Beds of shrubs create intimacy by outlining and defining the private spaces, while large pines shield off the intensity of the summer sun and frame views onto the lake.
