TEXT

North of Basel, the town of Huningue spreads along the left bank of the Rhine. From the river, the views open onto the imposing wooded mountainous areas facing. The river neighborhood project takes advantage of this remarkable context by putting the two banks in spatial conversation with one another, and by providing landscape spaces that complement the very mineral public spaces of the city center.

A significant planted framework serves in organizing a park system. Beginning at the embankments, a low promenade connects the public spaces of the future neighborhood. The principal north-south axis of the site continues the path of existing chestnut trees, providing a high promenade that brings together pedestrian and bicycle traffic. From here, spacious lawns spread out downwards towards the Rhine. Inspired by the old sloping banks around the citadel and by Swiss lake shores, these public spaces are intended to become places of contemplation and privileged spots for enjoying the river.

Across the entirety of the park, large trees are planted following an irregular pattern that creates landscape settings both obvious and unique, with unobstructed views of the river. Along the embankments, slight and discrete facilities such as pontoons and booms are planned, establishing a rich and varied and closer connection with the water.
