A former industrial site is transformed into a cohesive, green ensemble for the city
A neighborhood park featuring three large clearings
As with many former industrial sites, the plot layout comprises north- and south-facing buildings, both residential and commercial, organized in long rows perpendicular to the Seine. The buildings open onto a new, 1.2-hectare public park, expanding the network of green spaces in the city of Clichy.
Building a green connection between the new Parc Bic and the Parc des Impressionnistes to the northwest
The 1.2-hectare Parc Bic park creates a cohesive, green ensemble for the city. Local residents can stroll through this new neighborhood park, from the downtown area all the way to the existing Parc des Impressionnistes park (designed by Christophe Laforge at Hyl). The Parc des Impressionnistes is built on filled land, creating a significant jump in elevation compared to the surroundings. Our project aims to smooth user experience by extending the greenery into a more intimate park at street level.
Integrating the park into the neighborhood network
Improving the street network and creating a path through the new Parc Bic strengthens the connection between the growing neighborhood, the Parc des Impressionnistes, the train stations, and the downtown area. The park’s main promenade offers a soft path for pedestrians and cyclists. A grid of smaller pathways accompanies the promenade, an echo of the industrial plot layout.
Weaving a tapestry of gardens and activities
Rows of trees delineate the main streets around the site. Inside the park, layers of shrubbery blanket the ground while densely and irregularly planted trees stretch upward. The vegetation frames three large clearings. Each clearing is sectioned into distinct, small gardens: a water garden, thermophilic meadows, decorative orchards, vegetable gardens, and lawns perfect for occasional events. The clearings are the project’s heart and soul, forming at once passageways, community spaces, and places for relaxation and active recreation.
The tree layer creates harmony and cohesion throughout the park, and transforms the growing neighborhood into a cool oasis. Various strategies minimize energy consumption for both the buildings and green spaces, like using low-carbon dry construction or collecting and storing rainwater. Softscape surfaces are preserved as much as possible to meet the needs of this flood-prone area.
