The square in front of Evreux cathedral, through its unity and rigor of composition, highlights and puts on display the impressive monument. Starting from a confused situation characterized by a proliferation of materials, boundaries, functions, our intervention consisted essentially in simplifying the public space leading up to and around the monument. The creation of coherence, not only from the topographical point of view but as well with regards to the materials implemented, could not occur without a rigorous and careful design of the ground.
To the west, the existing square is modified. A new connection is established between the cathedral and the neighboring river. The succession of existing walls is replaced by a large open area in which steps lead visitors down to the level of the lower quay.
