Pion is an abandoned barracks on a 20 ha site adjacent to the park. The city of Versailles has ordered an urban study to create the new Gally district.
THE MAIN LANDSCAPE FEATURES
The large terrace is a vast lawn planted along its entire length with orchards on an 8-metre grid. This 6-metre-wide elevated walkway welcomes all users (pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders) who, thanks to its belvedere location, enjoy views over the great landscape: the paths of the Parc de Versailles, the wooded hillsides of the Plaine de Versailles, the central open space of the site... The terrace is linked to the spaces it overlooks by ramps, inspired by those of the Potager du Roi.
The wooded cordon is inspired by the great wooded continuity of the hillsides of the Plaine de Versailles. This landscape feature is of great functional interest. Planted over an average width of 30 metres, it creates an effective barrier against noise and visual disturbance from the railroad tracks. It also accommodates parking facilities that complement those of the neighborhood (visitors, events, etc.) within large planted malls.
The central plain is a triangular-shaped open space of almost 3 hectares. To the north of the Quartier, only a few linear orchards have been planted to create a series of large, successive rooms. This part of the site remains open and can accommodate a wide variety of programs (public park, equestrian center, etc.).
The Cité-jardin combines the elements defined for the rest of the project. In the private gardens, large trees are planted in the same way as in the wooded cordon, while along the streets and squares, small orchards are planted, like those on the terrace.
