TEXT

Starting from the overall site plan and the research studies carried out by the firm KPF, we sought to define the character of each of the landscape spaces found in this old warehouse neighborhood. As the project area in its entirety is undergoing a process of transformation, the composition and arrangement of the exterior spaces is subject to a certain unpredictability. It was essential to adopt a series of recommendations, rules, and materials capable of properly deciphering the neighborhood, predicting its evolution, and thus helping to ensure a coherence in its spaces despite the length of time and unpredictabilities involved in its transformation.

The guidelines establish which components will make up the evolving overall plan.

In terms of method, these guidelines are based upon case studies: a few locations are selected, representing in small number the entirety of situations possible in these future public spaces. For each of these locations a short, condensed project is developed. These summary projects are then each considered didactically, in order to clearly address each subject touched upon in the guidelines.

These guidelines therefore consist in assembling a collection of small, prototype projects that together cover the many typologies of public spaces in the neighborhood.
