Located in the heart of St. Petersburg historical city center and next to the Neva River, the project is distinguished by its naturalistic layout, inspired by the original geography of the Petrovsky island. Our aim is to strength the relation between the city and the river at its very core, in order to reveal the strong hidden link between history and geography, rediscovering the historical background of the site, originally composed by marshlands, making it visible again both to residents and visitors.
The Park is shaped as a clearing opening itself on the bank with the purpose of magnifying the views both towards the river and the city’s extraordinary landscape, marked by the grandeur of the historical facade of St Petersburg.
Four main components define the project:
The wide clearing, made up of a series of large lawns, opens itself on the river and offers a wide area for temporary exhibitions for a large number of visitors.
The wetland, which highlights the natural and alluvial character of the territory, offers a close contact with nature, creating a great refuge of biodiversity in the heart of the city.
The bank that allows people to come closer to the river, widening views and hosting many different uses at every season.
The buffer that isolates the park from the noise of the adjacent street and evokes the woodlands of the close context.
The project of the park, anchored to its ecological roots in the very heart of St. Petersburg, will amplify the presence of the city’s cultural heritage providing a contemporary landscape with a geographical anchorage.
