The park for Doha's Museum of Islamic Art adjoins the emblematic cultural edifice designed by I.M. Pei on the seafront. Close to the port and at the southern end of Doha Bay, this public space, built on an extension into the sea, extends over 14 hectares and offers spaces for taking walks and for sea-related activities. In contrast to a formal treatment of the small cliff and its alignments of palm trees, the project created vast green slopes stripped of any decorative pattern. This hilly topography plays with the geography of the site and evokes an elemental landscape. Gradually rising towards the horizon, the hills guide walkers to a ridgeline overlooking Doha Bay. From this high vantage point, they can contemplate the Doha skyline or the new museum and its monumental sculpture by Richard Serra. All the functions and facilities of the site are grouped together in small mineral valleys situated between the green hills.
