Located in a neighborhood in the outskirts of the historical city, the landscape design and planning surrounding the Cité Desmichels, an administrative structure dating from the 18th century, attempts to reintroduce a sense of urban continuity with the city center. Uniform paving covers the ground in a perfectly square geometrical pattern, using the proportions of the administrative building as the basis of calculation. The pattern is visually emphasized by the light grey of the granite tiles framing the clearer white of the paving stones.
A circular fountain is situated in the precise center of Alsace Lorraine Square. A line of paving stones, crossing the fountain diametrically, delineates a path of movement from one side to the other where two canals are situated. These two parallel canals create three separate areas, each with their own function: the cour d'honneur, the rue du 15/7, and a pedestrian area which extends into Alsace Lorraine Square. Another, smaller fountain harmonizes with the first, lining up with it on the path of one of the canals, where it meets another road.
The aligned plantings of plane and chestnut trees are inserted on site in continuity with the existing urban layout.
