TEXT

The urban block of RY is made up of areas of open ground. These areas, located both in the heart of the block as well as at its periphery, form the main vegetal structure of the tree-filled garden. They are planted with large trees so as to harmonize with the strong vertical presence of the adjacent buildings. The tree choice and their planting density calls to mind the vegetal range found within the woodlands of the surrounding Ile de France region. The creation of a garden in the hollowed out urban spaces is inspired by those found in Aulnaies-Frênaies, while the garden aligning itself along the roads borrows its organizing principles from pubescent oak forests.

In order to enlarge upon the vegetal environment of the wooded areas, luxuriant staples prolong the herbaceous layer of the undergrowth out into the periphery of the block. A supple presence of shrubs enhances this inaccessible herbaceous layer, and functions in drawing attention to the points of view, visual framings, and openings between the center of the garden and the street.

A high metal fence runs along the boundaries of the plot, as well as between its different series of courtyards, gardens, and parking lots. These visually permeable boundary lines are planted in certain spots with climbing plants, thereby constituting a green framework that participates in the overall vertical landscape of the block, extending it all the way to the street.
