As a project that has been elaborated in consultation with Ealing Council, the GLA, Transport for London, CABE, and Design for London, Glenkerrin’s aim is to place the Arcadia Commercial Quarter development in the context of a wider master plan for Haven Green. The functional objective is to improve the transport facilities for bus and taxis on Haven Green, whilst maintaining and improving its landscape quality.
Haven Green is an important area of common land which has existed since medieval times and is a classified conservation area. The landscape design takes into account the existing character of Haven Green and particular attention has been given to retaining the existing landscape structure of magnificent mature London plane trees.
The transport interchange is consolidated along the length of the Eastern edge of Haven Green, allowing for the Green to be re-stitched along its diagonal south-east - north-west axis, improving the transport connections for buses and taxis with the train and underground station. This spatial reorganisation is accompanied by a proposed planting structure which integrates the Green with the Transport Interchange and the Shopping Parade. The aim is to create a bus interchange which is fully integrated to the park environment, maintaining and improving the agreeable existing situation in which commuters traverse and wait for buses within a park/garden setting.
