TEXT

Undergoing rapid transformation, the once enclosed neighborhood surrounding Nancy's train station has sought to open itself up onto its environment, adapting through the process new urban practice. In setting about its redevelopment, the site is approached as a single urban park, an entity to scale with the other large public spaces and landscapes of Nancy.

Two pronounced interventions give back to the area a distinct and clear identity. First and foremost, at ground level the creation of a continuous mineral foundation brings  together the various spaces within the same unity. In following, the plantings are composed in a loose configuration of thick groves and ample green spaces. This plant layer adapts itself to the constraints of the heavy flow of traffic present, creating a characteristic vegetal landscape for the neighborhood as well as new perspectives.

The equilibrium introduced between mineral and plant surfaces induces a feeling of sustainability for the design. Visual coherence is ensured through simple means, with the area taking on a number of contemporary functions for the city.

Lastly, the spaces are approached methodically using easily reversible processes in order to facilitate the gradual implementation of the urban project.
