The design for this park began with the construction of two nearby projects: a maintenance facility for the future metro line, and the Ministry of Education building. A large, dome-shaped hill, formed using backfill material excavated from the construction sites, rises at the heart of the park. The three architectural elements connected by the park – the Ministry of Education, metro station, and maintenance facility – engage in conversation with one another through this newly sculpted topography, while its vantage points offer visitors sweeping views of the city. The park provides a new green space for the entire community. “Pocket gardens” bursting with xeric, drought-tolerant species round out the landscape design, forming areas perfect for holding classes, exhibitions, religious ceremonies, and local sporting events. The program elements are largely educational. Lush plantings offer cooling shade and facilitate evapotranspiration, maintaining optimal visitor comfort during even the hottest months.
