Our redevelopment project at the Port de la Daurade marina rejuvenates this iconic location in the city of Toulouse, celebrating its breathtaking view over the Garonne River. The existing trees are preserved, with 24 new trees planted throughout the grassy lawns, including ash, alder, willow, and maple. A playground set beneath the existing large trees calls to mind nautical trades of the past, with elements like a play structure resembling the traditional flat-bottomed riverboat known in French as a “gabarre.” The historical heritage of this place is also celebrated in the site’s surfacing, where swaths of sandstone flagstones from the Pyrenees alternate with Garonne River pebbles arranged in a decorative pattern (a traditional French paving style known in French as “calade,” typically found in the South of France). A natural spring runs beneath the marina, its course depicted on the surface above. The retaining walls are restored using traditional materials, namely old bricks and traditional lime mortar. This new, vibrant community space houses a wide range of facilities and activities, including a dining establishment, temporary outdoor markets, ample space for picnicking, and more.
