The campus of the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD) is nestled in the Fontainebleau Forest. Our redesign remakes this site into a Forest Campus: a cohesive and resilient landscape network, directly inspired by the abundance of environments and ecosystems in these woods. The new Forest Campus revives the link between the university and its wooded surroundings, creating hubs of biodiversity perfect for a wide variety of activities. The design weaves together two distinct yet complementary landscape sections: the regenerated forest and the themed gardens. The regenerated forest unify the space. Meticulously cultivated using comprehensive management practices, this uninterrupted stretch of edge landscape consciously restores the forest as a physical presence campus-wide. Each of the five themed gardens echoes an ecosystem found in the surrounding forest, providing the ideal backdrop for a range of activities. Legible pathways crisscross the Forest Campus, linking each and every one of these new, welcoming spaces. Designed in a cardo-decumanus orthogonal grid, the pathways flow comfortably throughout the campus, offering both regular users and occasional visitors a clear understanding of the site. The new, intentionally-designed landscape is now better able to grow alongside the university, accommodate changing environments, and provide high-quality spaces, right from installation and construction.
