Located on the axis connecting Marignane and Vitrolles near Aix-en-Provence, the train station above the Arbois plateau is designed to assist with the traffic of Marseille-Saint Charles station.
The presence of the station within the landscape is highlighted by rows of hackberry trees running the length of the platforms, with the space between the trees and platforms taken up by a garden in the language of the southern French style, largely planted with oleander. The parking lots – seven hundred places total with an extension of up to eleven hundred possible – are planted with white and holm oaks in the form of groves, continuing the Mediterranean scrubland garrigue environment.
Eventually the roads winding their way through the configuration will become integrated within the harmonious outline of trees.
