The linking of two public parks on top of Fourvière hill supplied the pretext for a subtle intervention which would demonstrate a simple resolve: to not commit the irreversible in a very delicate context.
The crest of the hill bears traces of a tramway line, which was used only limitedly, and at a later date repurposed to transport coffins to the cemetery. The presence of this almost intangible line allowed room for negotiation with the religious authorities, owners of these estates once overhung by the viaduct. Along this spot distinguished by its old functional use, a long footbridge was set up connecting the two public spaces, offering plummeting views on to the gardens of the convent. The columns of the viaduct have been preserved, as well as has the funicular machinery. If need be, the walkway's flooring can be easily dismantled, leaving the site open to future projects.
