The project entails the design of the public spaces located at the heart of the Montluçon agglomeration. More broadly, it aims at creating a structure into which the territory can evolve in the future through the elaboration of an urban development plan.
The development of the river Cher's banks will function in linking the two sides of the city that have until today mostly turned their backs on one another. On one side, the old medieval city, touristic and historical, while on the other, the modern city, sprung up in the industrial era, sprawling and lacking in coherence. The challenge lies in taking full advantage of and highlighting the river's presence, while successfully using it to unify the city center's public spaces.
This transformation will take place through the creation of promenades along the embankments, as well as thematic gardens, terraced seating, moveable floating pontoons. Recognized as deserving of regional interest by the ANRU (National Agency for Urban Renovation), the Pierre-Leroux and La Verrerie neighborhoods will be grouped with the city and renewed as well. The ways of moving about the city have been rethought in order to introduce the creation of a new urban framework.
