TEXT

The promenade along the banks of the Lez river is enhanced by the nearly three hectares of park spreading out from the entire western side of the Richter ZAC (urban development zone). Reaching a total surface area of six hectares, the park allows for the rises in the river's water levels to be managed and kept under control. The “comblike” composition establishes such a close relationship between the vegetation and the residential area that the park comes to extend into the very interior of the neighborhood. Similarly, each resident is able to directly access the riverbanks.

The tree pattern follows the east-west orientation we had established previously in the master plan of the Port Marianne neighborhood. The planting configuration of the garden is the result of miniaturizing principles utilized by forestry development. The length of the tree rows and the distances between them are unplanned and vary depending upon the variety of tree. The impression produced by this process is one of dense pockets of “natural” wooded areas, except from the residential buildings, where perceptible alignments impart a more urban character to the planted figures.
