New public spaces extend the chain of major sites throughout the campus

This landscape redesign is in harmony with prior projects of varying scales designed by MDP in this neighborhood in Palaiseau (the Paris Saclay Cluster, the Quartier Polytechnique, and the Edge Zones of the Quartier du Moulon and the Quartier Polytechnique). The Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IPP) campus, like the campus in Palaiseau, sits in an uninterrupted lush, wooded forest rising among a clearly defined hardscape site. As the built environment and architectural design rapidly change in any new neighborhood, it is essential to create a uniform surface with iterative materials, styles, and shapes. The Place Marguerite Perey square, located near the new train station and lots of shops, restaurants, and a market, is the initial central space in this urban campus. Along the eastern edge of the square sits a new major institute and recent addition to the campus: the Institut Mines Télécom. In our redesign, the Place Marguerite Perey is remade into a garden-square, creating an urban and lushly greened space. Broad, paved and shaded walkways frame a vast central meadow. These walkways support heavy foot traffic, and connect users to open spaces as well as spacious and comfortable seating areas. In addition to the Place Marguerite Perey Garden Square and the Naturalistic Park at the northern end of the campus, our redesign includes the Green, a 2.5-hectare space comprising a 1.5-hectare park (with 500 single stem and evergreen trees) and numerous park amenities (including picnic tables, ping pong tables, vegetable gardens, and water fountains). This new green space runs alongside the international high school.
