TEXT

The figure of the valley – a lawn more or less inclosed, bordered by trees and open to distant views -  is a distinctive feature of the parks in Brussels. This reference is reinterpreted here in a new setting and with a contemporary language. The challenge of this transposition is to offer a relevant scale capable of integrating the new building, a fifteen floor tower, within a landscaped enclave.

Sizable masses of vegetation constitute a large planted edge all along the border with the neighboring plots of land. These glide along in front of the large trees and parks adjacent, lending the illusion of an expansive forest landscape. The duplication of the horizon lines and the thickness given to the edges create together an excessive proportion to the site and its new building, while preserving certain direct views towards the street.

This distinctive planted “frame” surrounding the central lawn integrates as well the numerous constraints produced in servicing the site, successfully managing the many usages and links possible between the neighborhood, the new building, its exterior spaces, and its underground parking lot, without diminishing or jeopardizing the breadth of landscape given to the project. Through the simplicity of layout, the site remains easy to read despite its numerous points of access.
