Our project at the Place Saint-Pierre square restores this waterfront space as a major site overlooking the Garonne River. Along the city side of the project site, perched above the riverbanks, the area formerly used for parking is transformed into a pedestrian zone. This reclaimed plaza unfurls beneath newly planted trees, its uniform porphyry paving creating a sense of cohesion throughout the space. New trees are planted in groves, providing a counterpoint to the orderly rows of historic, large plane trees. Along the Garonne River, amphitheater-like seating now offers users direct access to the water’s edge, designed with comfortable steps made of sandstone from the Pyrenees. Thanks to a lighting system that highlights the river in the background, this new community space is just as welcoming at night.
