Urban study prior to the creation of the new Gally district
Pion is an abandoned barracks on a 20 ha site adjacent to the park. The study defines four main landscape features. The large terrace, a vast lawn planted along its entire length with orchards, is an elevated walkway welcomes all users (pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders). Its belvedere location offers views over the great landscape: the paths of the Parc de Versailles, the wooded hillsides of the Plaine de Versailles, the central open space of the site... The terrace is linked to the spaces it overlooks by ramps, inspired by those of the Potager du Roi. The wooded cordon, planted over an average width of 30 metres, creates an effective barrier against noise and visual disturbance from the railroad tracks. It provides accommodates parking facilities that complement those of the neighborhood (visitors, events, etc.) within large planted malls. To the north, the central plain is a triangular-shaped open space of almost 3 hectares. Only a few linear orchards are planted there, creating a series of large, successive rooms. This part of the site remains open and can accommodate a wide variety of programs (public park, equestrian center, etc.). In the private gardens, large trees are planted in the same way as in the wooded cordon, while along the streets and squares, small orchards are planted, like those on the terrace.
